Julie

Julie and her family immigrated to Wisconsin from Sydney Australia, when she was a very young girl. She grew up spending time in nature; exploring the natural wonders Wisconsin’s woods have to offer. She did this with “boots on the ground” and also by air (more about that later 😊). Her love for animals was born early, while helping socialize and prepare the PONs (Polish Lowland Sheepdogs) and Chinese Crested dogs, that her mother bred and showed. “I’ve always known I was going to work with animals; I just didn’t know in what capacity.”

Julie started her professional career in animal health while still in high school; she started grooming pets. She later attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, College of Natural Resources, going back to her “roots” in the woods; studying wildlife management. A stint in a pet Day Care facility adjacent to a veterinary hospital lead her to become a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). “I became a CVT to advocate for animals’ health and well-being: to learn as much as possible for their care.”

While capable in all areas of veterinary nursing; Julie’s desire to make meaningful impact on pet’s lives led her to a strong interest in surgery and anesthesiology, as well as pet dental care. By assisting veterinarians to keep pets safe under anesthesia and assisting, “hands-on”, in complex cases she daily makes an immediate impact on the health of pets through such surgical intervention. Additionally, she finds performing a thorough dental exam and prophylactic cleaning very rewarding – not only giving the pet back a healthy “smile” but improving the pet’s overall health and eliminating the all too often unrecognized oral pain that goes along with dental disease.

Julie’s life outside of the hospital is very full of family and pets. Like Noah’s Ark her family comes in groups of two. She shares her home with two young active boys; her oldest son, Owen wants to be “an under-car fixer” while his younger brother, Aidan, has yet to make any career decisions. Helping to keep these boys entertained are two dogs; Lily the Pit Bull mix and Miya, a powder puff Chinese crested. Watching over everyone and everything are wise two cats; Toby and Kovu.

Julie has little time for pursuing hobbies at present. As a child she learned to fly helicopters with her father by her side; maybe she will take to the skies again someday soon.
