Menomonee Falls, WI, June 27, 2019 – After a harrowing six weeks, a red-tailed hawk has returned to the sky.

In May, Dr. Molly Lien, a veterinarian at performed surgery on the hawk rescued in Wisconsin after a near-death experience. Thursday, June 27, 2019, the hawk was released by the team that combined efforts to save it.

A WE Energies employee discovered the hawk caught in a live power line – three stories in the air. With the help of , a rescue and rehabilitation center for wildlife in Washington County, the hawk was rescued. However, the bird sustained severe injuries to its leg.

The deep wounds required several surgical procedures performed by Dr. Molly Lien along with her team. After undergoing surgery, Dr. Lien then assisted Wanakia Wildlife in the rehabilitation and care of the hawk’s leg. Over the following six weeks, the hawk slowly recovered and was returned to the wild. Among the group of well-wishers was Dr. Lien.

“It’s hard not to get a tear in your eye,” said Dr. Molly Lien.

The hawk was released in the at the intersection of County Aire and Spring Valley Road, where he was found just a few weeks earlier.
