No early signs of pets being negatively impacted by the outbreak

Menomonee Falls, WI March 7, 2020

Brook-Falls Veterinary Hospital and Exotic Care, Inc. is sending out a message of reassurance to their clients and area pet owners. There does not seem to be any link between the Coronavirus and furry family members. According to a recent report, the CDC (U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has confirmed that no animals in the United States have been identified as being infected with the virus. Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest that dogs, cats, or other pets can contract or spread the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

Additional Reports Agree

Supporting that report, a leading provider of medical insurance for dogs and cats, Trupanion, confirmed that they had not seen any unusual changes or increases in the number of illnesses in their vast pet health database of more than 500,000 registered animals. The 20-year-old Seattle-based pet insurance company continually reviews data and monitors changes in veterinary medicine and office visits. The company does this to understand any underlying changes related to regular illness patterns.

Trupanion monitors data each day, week, and month as well as by breed, city, and even at a neighborhood level. Monitoring data make sure they are on top of any health-related trends that might be outside the typical pet illnesses and vet visits. As of today, they report no changes in the frequency of diseases that would appear unusual.

Peace of Mind

The veterinarians and team of Brook-Falls Veterinary Hospital and Exotic Care understand how a family might be worried about their pets.

Brook-Falls wants to provide pet owners and animal lovers with some peace of mind. A pet is a member of the family. With conflicting news stories regarding the severity of the virus and where it is spreading, it’s very natural and common to be worried about your loved ones, including your pets. Therefore, Brook-Falls will continue to monitor the latest medical information. If anything changes, they will let pet owners in the community know immediately.

If any pet owners notice that their furry companion seems sick, acting differently, or “under the weather,” visit or call your veterinarian as soon as possible.
